Behind the Panel: Coming in Hot

Welcome to Behind the Panel, a new blog series taking you behind the scenes, behind the pages, and straight into the creative minds behind the Konkret Comics’ creations you know and love. Take a deeper look and get a bit of inspiration introducing you to the story behind the story (and maybe a little sneak peek).

A new comic book creator has emerged, adding a fiery new hero to the Konkret Comics universe of shining stars, and we need to talk about it. Let me introduce you to Solar the Sovereign, and the creator/writer—Thadd Williams.

Who is Solar the Sovereign ?

In a world full of darkness, a man on fire is chosen to uphold “The Light”. Caught between the weight of his greatest fears and stepping into his destiny through a divine awakening, Solar answers the call to become the protector of two worlds. With cosmic powers inherited through the Fahrenheit Force, and human blood running through his veins, Trevin Williams becomes: Solar the Sovereign, a living Sun called to restore balance between man and space. Witness the ascension as he becomes the sovereign to one race and savior to another.

If you love the Konkret signature of The Legendary Akolyte and the scientific spark infused within works like The Flash and Fantastic Four, Solar the Sovereign is for you. With the unforgettable influences in style, quality, and heart found In Konkret’s first hero, Williams’ brings his cosmic hero down to earth to face environmental global threats with literal firepower and physics. Solar the Sovereign tackles climate change and environmental warfare, all while rooting the story in legacy, family, and purpose.

So, if you’re looking for a dynamic hero’s journey with super-powered action, high stakes, and a stimulating dose of STEM infused in every page, get behind Solar the Sovereign.

Meet Thadd Williams, the man behind the flame.

Every hero reflects the heart of their creator.

While some creators chase spectacle, Williams writes from conviction and hope.

I asked him to take us behind the panels of his debut and share a bit of insight and inspiration. Here’s what he had to say…

I’m from Columbia, SC born and raised. I served in the U.S. Air Force for twelve years. I work in the technology industry as a Cybersecurity Engineer. Solar the Sovereign is my very first comic book, I am truly humbled and thankful to be able release this under Konkret Comics.

Behind the Panel

When asked to share one of his favorite panels from his comic book, Williams shared a scene that captured both the heart and cosmic potential of his hero.

Why does this panel matter? What makes this panel significant/important to you? What inspired it?

The panel of Solar being caught by the fiery hand of the Fahrenheit Force meant a lot to me, because it was a reminder that even in our darkest moments we are never alone. We can get knocked down and get back up again if we choose to stay in the fight.

What do you hope readers take from this panel and from your work overall?

I want readers to know that light conquers all. In the panel I borrowed Dr. Martin Luther King’s quote: “Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that.” My goal is impress upon the readers that we all have light in us if we choose to accept the responsibility.

What’s next? How can we best support you and your work ?

Issue #3 and Origins Issue #1 of Solar’s story are currently in production right now. I’m hoping to get those books out later this year. The best way to support me would be to continue supporting Konkret Comics. I feel like we have the best fans in the world, and when the family wins we all win.

Behind every panel and every page as a reminder that darkness is loud but light is stronger.
